Students of Resonance shines in Stage-I of International Biology Olympiad.

In International Biology Olympiad (IBO) total 8 students have been selected. 5 of these are regular classroom students of Resonance Pre-Medical Division. 2 of them are from Kota study centre (Stavan Jariwala and Ashutosh Sahu), 2 from Jodhpur Centre (Shubham Lodha and Aditya Chaudhary) and one student is from Nashik study centre (Abhigyan A. Chakraborty). It is to be noted that Stavan scored highest marks in Gujarat.

The  other 3 students are Yash Gupta, Lay Jain & Pawan Goyal. All 3 regular students of Resonance Kota PCCP Study Center & recently they all have won Gold Medal for India in the 12th IJSO.

Below is the brief details of various rounds conducted in IBO:

  1. National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB)– about 10,000 students appear for this exam held in about 800 centres across the nation.
  2. Indian National Biology Olympiad (INBO)– About 300 top students are selected to appear for this exam.
  3. Orientation cum Selection Camp in Biology (OCSC)– About 40 students attend a camp at the end of which the top four students are selected to represent India at the IBO.
  4. The Pre-departure Camp (PDC)is finally held for the four students selected in the team.

Tests:

The NSEB and INBO comprise of only a theory paper whereas for the selection of the team in the OCSC, theory as well as experimental tests are held.

The NSEB paper is prepared by the members of a biology teachers’ organization. The theory as well as the experimental papers for the INBO and the OCSC are rpepared and standardized by an examination board comprising of members of HBCSE as well as a few experts.

The first round is held at about 800 centres across the country. The second round is held at fifteen centres in the country. The OCSC and PDC are held at HBCSE in Mumbai, India.

Student training: 

The four team members are trained for a period of two weeks before they depart for the IBO.  the venue for the camp is HBCSE in Mumbai, India.

Study materials: 

For the first round, the recommended books are the textbooks of the Central Board in India upto class XII.  For the second and the subsequent rounds, students are given the list of books recommended for the IBO like Biology by Campbell and a few general as well as specific books depending on the areas specified for a particular year.

Awarding of students, prizes: 

Certificates are awarded to stduents selected for the INBO. All stduenst who attend the OCSC are given certificates of participation as well as some books. The four stuents selected to form the team are given special merit certificates and prizes in the form of books as well as cash. Best performance in theoretical exam and best eprformance in experimental exam are two special awards given at the end of the OCSC. These students also receive certificates, books as well as cash awards.

Financial support / resources:

The Science Olympiads in India are funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Role of Ministry of education: 

Ministry of Education called Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) funds international travel of the team.
