JEE Advanced 2016 Website Launched. Guwahati will be the responsible IIT.

Website for JEE Advanced 2016 has been launched on Thursday, 22nd October. This year, IIT Guwahati has been given the responsibility to conduct this prestigious engineering entrance exam. The date of the exam has not been declared yet but it is announced that this year too, the exam will be having 2 papers of 3 hours each. The timing of these papers will be 9 AM to 12 PM and then 2 PM to 5 PM. Earlier, there were proposals for single exam and single rank for admission in IIT’s and NIT’s but it is mostly unlikely to happen in this session. Still the final decision is yet to be taken by the committee.

Certain eligibility criteria announced on JEE Advanced 2016 website are as follows:

Criterion 1 – Age limit.

The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1991 if belonging to the GEN or OBC-NCL category and on or after October 1, 1986 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.

JEE Advanced Committee likely to introduce written exam from 2017 onwards

Getting into an IIT might get tougher from the 2017 session. The IIT Joint Admission Committee is considering adding a third component – a written section – after the Main and Advanced tests.

This new segment will add another layer of complexity to an already tough examination where every single percentile counts. The board hopes to curtail guess-work by candidates and force them to exhibit their actual grasp of a subject. It will necessitate an overhaul of the evaluation system but the committee is ready to do that if it improves the quality of students. Continue reading

Proposal for Common Entrance Test for admission in IIT’s and NIT’s

The proposal of the Union ministry of human resource development (MHRD) for a single entrance test for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) has been welcomed by educational experts.

With a view to reducing the stress on students, a committee constituted by the MHRD has recently proposed that a single common entrance test be held for IITs and NITs. The committee has also recommended several other changes in the existing entrance examination process of IITs. Continue reading

Gujarat may replace JEE by GujCET.

Gujarat state may come up with new entrance test for professional courses, Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET), moving away from Joint Entrance Test (JEE) which, presently, is compulsory for candidates for admissions in engineering and pharmacy.

After introducing major changes in IIT Admission Process in 2013, on 24-May-2015 (Sunday) JEE Advanced 2015, stage-2 for IIT Admission Process was conducted. 1.52 Lakh students were selected to appear for this exam, although only 1.22 Lakh students were eligible to sit for exam based on various pre criteria. As earlier IIT-JEE Examinations, JEE (Advanced) 2015 was conducted in two parts (Paper 1 & Paper 2). Paper 1 was conducted from 9 AM to 12 PM and Paper 2 was conducted from 2 PM to 5 PM.
