National Talent Search Examination: Stage I in November

National Talent Search Examination National Council of Educational Research and Training Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110016, has invited application for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for students studying in Class X.

The NTSE is conducted to identify the nurture talent and to provide scholarship for studies from Class 11 to PhD Level. About 1000 scholarships are awarded for different stages of education.  For Class-XI to XII, scholarship will be Rs.1250/- per month. For Undergraduates and Post-graduates, it would be Rs.2000/- per month. The amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.

Eligibility: All students of Class X studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the Stage-I examination, conducted by the States/UTs, in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction. Students registered under Open Distance Learning (ODL) will also be eligible for scholarship, provided the student is below the age of 18 years, as on 1st July 2018, student is not employed and is appearing in class X examination for the first time.

Selection: Selection is based on an examination to be held in 2 stages. Stage I will be the state level examination and Stage-II, the National Level examination. Stage-I, selection will be done by States/UTs. Those selected/recommended from Stage-I examination, will be eligible to appear for Stage-II examination, to be conducted by NCERT.

Examination Pattern:  Stage-I & II examination at the State/UT level will comprise of two papers. Paper-I will be the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Paper-II is the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), each of 2 hours duration, having 100 questions and carrying 100 marks. If there is any change in pattern for Stage-II examination, the same will be communicated later on through NCERT website http://www.ncert.nic.in. Candidates may keep track of updates on NCERT website. There will be no negative marking in Stage-II examination.

Qualifying Marks: Qualifying marks for candidates from SC/ST/PH category is 32% in each paper and for others (General/OBC) categories it is 40% in each paper.

NTSE dates: The Stage I Examination in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be held on 3rd November, 2018 (Saturday). The Stage I Examination in all other States and Union Territories except West Bengal will be on 4th November, 2018 (Sunday). In West Bengal, it will be on 18th November, 2018 (Sunday).

Reservation: Reservation of Scholarships at National level for Stage-II Examination, will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST,  27% for OBC category (Non-creamy layer) and 4% for Physically Challenged categories.

Application Form: Those interested for the Stage I examination, may contact the State/UT Liaison officer for procuring application form. The list of Liaison officers is given at http://ncert.nic.in/announcements/pdf/List_LO_2018-19.pdf The last date for submission of application form for Stage-I examination will be notified by the respective State and it may vary from state to state.

Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required which will be paid for the Stage-I examination. NCERT does not charge any fee for Stage -II examination.

The completed application form should be signed by the Principal of the school. Different states may have different last dates for submission. Applicants should confirm from the Liaison Officer of his/her state, the address at which the completed forms are to be submitted. All queries related to application form should be directed to the State Liaison Officers (LOs). No application should be sent to NCERT.

Indians abroad: Indian students studying abroad in Class X can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure available at http://www.ncert.nic.in/

Application Form for students studying abroad will be uploaded on NCERT website in the month of October, 2018. They may fill up the Application Form, and send it to ‘Head, Educational Survey Division National Council of Educational Research & Training Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi-110016’, along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination, to reach latest by 31st December 2018. Announcement for students of Indian nationality studying abroad will be announced separately.
