Union education minister Prakash Javadekar has announced that NTA (National Testing Agency) will conduct the JEE (Main) examinations from the year 2019 in a press conference in New Delhi. The JEE (Main) examination will be conducted twice a year through online mode. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is currently the conducting agency responsible for organizing JEE Main examinations. According to the minister, the candidates who will be appearing for these tests will be allowed to use the best score from the examinations in counselling process.
The minister also said that syllabus, question formats, language and fees for the exams would not be changed and hence will remain the same. The exams will be more secure and at par with international norms. There will be no issues of leakage and it would be more student friendly, open, scientific and a leak-proof system,” minister Javadekar told reporters present in the press conference.
Functioning format of NTA
- A one-time grant of Rs 250 million (Rs 25 crore) from the government will be given to the newly formed organization to start its operation in the first year after which it will be financially self-sustainable.
- Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860 is the act under which the NTA will be registered.
- NTA would locate its centers at sub-district/district level and as far as possible would undertake hands-on training exercise for the students which will help the students of rural background.
- NTA will be an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions and henceforth will not have any other responsibility.
Benefits for JEE Appearing Students
The exams will be conducted online twice a year giving an adequate opportunity to the candidates to bring out their best as they will be able to use the best score from the multiple attempts during the counselling process. The twice a year model for the entrance examinations would help students to pace their studies and most importantly give them an additional opportunity to appear without wasting their year.
The candidates will also have the option of going to the computer centers from August end to practice for the computer based exam. NTA is an autonomous body so transparency regarding the examinations is going to improve adequately. The competitive exams will have multiple dates so the students will have options to choose dates according to their preference.
