Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, is holding an open house on Sunday for the women candidates clearing the JEE (advanced) exams. The initiative, an attempt to increase the number of women on the campus, will also have representatives from IITs in Jammu, Bhilai, Mandi and Ropar.
This year, about 14% of the seats have been reserved for women in all IITs as supernumerary seats. The total number of woman-only seats across all IITs is 1,852, while 2,076 women aspirants have cleared the JEE (advanced) exams this year.
The open house will be held to “encourage girls to join an IIT and allay any doubt or fear they or their parents may have regarding different options and the campus life”, according to an IIT-D statement. The session will be conducted at Lecture Hall Complex from 10am to 5pm. Consultations will also be held through phone calls and emails.
“We advise all women candidates not to go by previous years’ closing ranks, but to fill in as many of their genuine preferences,” said Sumeet Agarwal, one of the event coordinators.
