AKTU just a back-up option, say toppers

Despite getting toppers, UPSEE results may not give AKTU a reason to cheer. The toppers in the various courses said that AKTU and its affiliated collegeswere only a back up option for them.

They will take admission in AKTU colleges only if they fail to get into professional colleges of national repute.

“I am happy that I have topped in BTech in UPSEE, but AKTU colleges are not my first preference. My dream is to pursue computer engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. I have scored 402 rank in JEE (Mains) and am expecting a good score in JEE (Advanced). So I will wait for the results,” said Aditya Singh.

He said the competition in engineering is the toughest as the candidates are more and good college options are lesser.

Kartikeya Singh, who topped in BPharma and BArch courses, aired similar thoughts. “Best faculty, infrastructure and placements are the main things that a candidate looks for in a BTech college. IITS and NITs offers them the best and hence they are sought after. Getting an admission in IITs and NITs is the first priority,” said Kartikeya.

MCA topper and son of a farmer, Shaurya Rastogi, shared that he is eagerly waiting for NIMCET results which will get him admission in the National Institute of Technology.

“There is a huge difference if one compares the job packages of AKTU colleges with those of NITs. I want to study in the best institute so that the financial problems faced by my family can be resolved. I will take an education loan, so I want a college which provides the best placement,” said Shaurya.

He stressed on self-study for cracking engineering entrance tests.

Sonali Singh who secured the first rank in MBA said she would prefer admission in MBA through the Common Admission Test over AKTU.

There are only four boys from Lucknow among top 25 in the merit list of BTech entrance test. Akash Vardhan secured the third rank scoring 544 marks.

“Almost every student who aspires to pursue engineering will look upto IITs. Exposure to international faculty, modern laboratories is available at IITs hence UPSEE is the last option,” said Akash.

The other three toppers from Lucknow — Shubhang Pandey (Rank 17), Divyansh Singh (Rank 22) and Abhay Kumar (Rank 25) also consider AKTU colleges as the second preference.

Ieshika Singh, who secured overall second rank in BArch, also said that as better options are available at national level and foreign universities, UPSEE takes a back seat.
