Over 17,000 candidates skip JEE (Advanced)

As many as 1,57,496 appeared for the first paper and 1,55.091 made it to the second paper. The number of foreign students who took up the JEE (Advanced) exam this year came down to 36 from last year’s 109.

Over 17,000 candidates did not take up the JEE (Advanced) examination held in two shifts at 573 centers across the country on Sunday.

Organising chairman of JEE (Advanced), professor Shalabh said 7,326 candidates skipped the first paper and 9,731 did not take up second paper. Thus, 17,057 candidates out of the registered 1,64,822 did not take up the examinations.

As many as 1,57,496 appeared for the first paper and 1,55.091 made it to the second paper. The number of foreign students who took up the JEE (Advanced) exam this year came down to 36 from last year’s 109.

The examination passed off peacefully on Sunday, with no case unfair means being reported from any centres.

Most candidates had followed the instructions religiously. A few who had worn jewels were asked to remove them before entering the examination hall.

Several candidates were upset over the mathematics question paper as it was lengthy and some questions were not only tough but were very complicated said most of examinees. They left a good number of questions due to the negative marking rule.

Sunil Tandon said that the mathematics part in the paper was very complicated while Ranjana Tilak described the paper as very lengthy one and it took more time to understand and to solve.

Nichal Tripathi, Deepanshu, Vaibhav Katiyar, Suryavanshi and several other examinees said that the mathematics paper was lengthy and tough. It had complicated questions also. They said that the question paper of Organic Chemistry was also very lengthy. The Physics paper was little tough but overall the question papers were satisfactory, they said.

A promoter of a coaching institute, Ashutosh Singh said since the paper was online, no information about it could be had. Details about the question paper could be known only when the students had finished exam.
