First online test for JEE Advanced

Over 1.6 lakh students took the entrance exam that will cater to 11, 000 seats across 23 IITs

On Sunday, 1,66,204 candidates sat for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced 201. For the first time, it was an entirely online exam. However, in December, the JEE-Advanced 2018 Mock Test was released by the organizing institute, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, on its official website. And students reported how well the mock tests had prepared them for this changed format.

Paper II posed a hurdle

Many students found Paper II to be tougher than Paper I. “The questions in Math required lengthy calculations and simplifications” said Tanvi. “I think Paper I was of the same standard as the previous year, but it was easier than the mock tests. Paper II was a bit tricky. It was tougher than the previous year. Math and Chemistry were a bit hard. But Physics was easier than the previous year,” said, Neel Balar from Deeksha Centre for Learning PU College, who secured All India Rank 259 in JEE Main.

“Paper II was a bit more difficult that Paper I. It was tougher than the previous year too. Math was pretty tough. Physics was comparatively easy,” said Aniruddha Latkar, another city aspirant who holds All India Rank of 80 in JEE Main.

Technical glitches in Bengaluru

Students taking the exam at the Ion Digital Zone Peenya Centre had to deal with frequent power outages and network problems. “It was a horrible situation. The first paper has still not finished and the second paper has been postponed to 4pm. How do you expect the students to give exams in such situations?” said a frustrated parent on Sunday afternoon.

Another parent remarked that students had faced issues at this centre during the JEE Main exams too. Many of the students’ answers were not recorded in the server.
