Students term MH-CET 2018 easiest entrance exam ever

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (MH-CET), held on Thursday, turned out to be a reasonably simple exam with students claiming it to be one of the easiest test in the recent past.
Experts had said that eventually MH-CET would be scrapped and, as in the case of the medical stream, there would be one exam pattern for engineering courses across the country in future. Hence, the state government had decided to bring MH-CET at par with the Joint Entrance Exam-Main so that students are prepared for future exams.

However, when the state government announced the syllabus and pattern for MH CET in October 2017, experts had pointed out the education department’s failure to match the JEE standards.

The MH CET exam on Thursday was a testimony to the prediction by experts. Founder of Bakliwal Tutorials Vaibhav Bakliwal said, “Authorities had claimed that they would increase the difficulty level of CET and bring it at par with JEE-Main. That was not the case at all as CET was much easier than JEE-Main.”

Bakliwal further explained, “To increase the difficulty level, they should have increased the time duration per question in CET. Asking 100 questions in 90 minutes for Physics and Chemistry makes it a speed game.”

Bakliwal also said that, overall, students who have been preparing for JEE are expected to do well in MH-CET.

IIT Pratishthan Kendra’s Durgesh Mangeshkar said, “CET did not meet even half the level of difficulty as JEE-Main. This is the easiest engineering entrance exam paper in the country and the easiest CET ever. Almost all questions are either information-based or formula-based. There is hardly any conceptual question in the entire paper.”

Students did not have any time management issue in both the papers this year as questions had minimal calculations or were non-numerical, Mangeshkar added.

With 4.3 lakh candidates enrolling for the test, MH-CET recorded almost a 14% rise in registrations this year from Maharashtra. The exam is a gateway for admissions to engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, hotel management colleges in the state.

Suyash Keskar, who appeared for the exam, said, “The exam was the easiest ever. I know this because I’ve been solving papers of past tests. Although the Physics section was a bit lengthy and time-consuming, Chemistry and Math sections were reasonably easy.”
The education department had incorporated 20% syllabus from Std XI and 80% from Std XII. The syllabus and exam pattern was decided by the experts from Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
Across 111 centres in the district, more than 50,000 students were expected to appear for the MH-CET. The test is conducted by the state Directorate of Technical Education.
