Joint Seat Allocation between IITs, NITs, other institutes from June 25

The first meeting of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) was held at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) on Saturday, May 2, 2015. A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Joint Admission Board (JAB), Joint Entrance Examination Advanced 2015 (JEE Advanced 2015) representing the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian School of Mines Dhanbad (ISM Dhanbad) as well as the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2015 representing the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other technical institutes funded fully or partially by the Central or a State government.

The norms for joint seat allocation were finalized during the meeting. Seat allocation for academic programs offered by 88 institutes will be conducted jointly through this authority for the 2015-16 academic year. The process of joint seat allocation will commence through a common web portal from Thursday, June 25, 2015.

The JoSAA was set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to supervise and regulate the joint allocation process for admissions into the IITs, NITs, IIITs as well as other centrally funded technical institutions. All the institutions have followed their own admission processes for many years. But from the current academic session, it will be available on the same online platform.

The IITs and ISM offer several academic programs for which admission will be on the basis of JEE Advanced 2015. The NITs, IIITs and other technical institutes which are funded fully or partially by the Central or a State government offer academic programs for which admission will be on the basis of JEE Main 2015.

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) will be the host site for the online joint seat allocation. The new system is expected to cut down the rate of seats remaining vacant as students will not be blocking seats. The entire process will be faster as well.
